Clean Up! Garbage Attracts Unwanted Pests and Bugs

A general consensus among homeowners about pests and bugs is that they invade only filthy places. So, they are surprised when they find roaches or flies in their home.

‘How could they enter our home? Its spic and span.’

Well, maybe you are not cleaning in the right places.

There is a reason why pets invade homes. They are either looking to find warmth and protection from the extreme weather outside, are looking for food or are looking for a suitable place where they can nest. And despite the best attempts, most houses provide all three. The ubiquitous nature of the critters also makes things difficult.

All said and done, how do you avoid pests from entering your home? Why, by cleaning up of course!

The Sources

As we mentioned, it is usually one of the three things. So if you are seeing signs of a pest infestation in your home, then firstly, you’d want to find out what is attracting them.

  • Ants seek out warm places to rest during winter. So, you should find out how they are entering your house. It may seem like a tall order since ants hardly needs a miniscule crevice to enter. But it can be done. Difficult. Not impossible. Take a walk around the house and caulk off any openings or cracks in the walls or windows and seal off the entry points.
  • Mosquitoes look for stagnant puddles of water to lay eggs in. Most homes have such puddles lying unseen or undetected in many parts. The yard may have a small pool of water which you were unaware of. Water may have accumulated under the eaves. If you have unused tools lying in the yard, water may have pooled up after a drizzle. Mosquitos can cause many dangerous diseases. And you have to be extremely diligent in cleaning up any puddles of stagnant water immediately, to get rid of mosquitoes.
  • The next thing that attracts more than one pest is food. It doesn’t have to be a lot of food lying around either. Even crumbs attract critters. Roaches can mostly be seen in the kitchen scouting for food crumbs that may have been left over in the dish washer. Your garbage can be a banquet for these pests. So, make it a habit to clean any accidentally spilled beverage or food, rinse your beverage cans before you dispose them, ensure that no food crumbs are left in the dishwasher, all food sources must be kept away in sealed containers. These are simple but extremely effective steps in curbing pest infestations. Especially, the ones who raid your house for food.
  • The lawn, if left unattended, does more damage to your home, than merely spoiling its curb appeal. It can be a haven for pests like ticks and spiders who like dark and moist places to live in. With summer on its way, it is the season for barbeque parties. So, start preparing to eliminate the pests before you venture out with the kids.

Most pest infestations can be avoided. But an existing infestation, often demands the skills of a professional pest control company in Vancouver. If you are seeing signs of an infestation, then speak to a local bug removal company right away.
